Paleontological Society of Austin
Book Review
Rosemary E. and Thomas J. Akers This Publication no. 3 is a great reference guide to the identification and illustration of the echinoids of Texas. From its simple illustrated glossary that will help you describe your echinoid/sea urchin to the distribution of them through out the upper and lower Cretaceous, this is a must have book for your fossil library. The book includes over 600 illustrations, 100 drawings in the glossary alone as well as more then 500 specimen illustrations. After a day of collecting in Texas you can sit back, open your book and identify what you have found. This reference lists the common and uncommon echinods of Texas and has the taxonomic divisions of them all (kingdom, phylum, class etc.). Many localities are listed in the back of the book along with the other fossils that can be found, including ammonites, corals, sharks teeth and others. Over all, I would give this book five echinoid stars. |
